Strengths
- One of the largest downloadable models and the base of Qwen3.8-Max.
- On your own servers the data never leaves your company and nothing goes to Alibaba Cloud.
- Its native context is 262,144 tokens and can be extended to about one million.
- If you do not want your own hardware, it is hosted in Alibaba Cloud for $2 input and $6 output per million tokens.
Weaknesses
- It only handles text and always thinks before answering. Images, video and the default one-million-token context are only in the Qwen3.8-Max API model.
- The benchmark results on the model card are for the API version, not necessarily the open weights.
- According to DeepLearning.AI, the custom license has conditions tied to company size: very large services must credit the model or get a separate license.
- Alibaba does not state hardware requirements, but in practice you need a GPU cluster and a team to run it.
Best for
- large organizations with their own GPU cluster
- a top-tier model without sending data to the cloud
Not ideal for
- small servers and ordinary computers
- working with images and video
How to use it in Europe
You download the weights from Hugging Face and run them on your own servers, so the data never leaves your company. You need a GPU cluster for this, and Alibaba does not publish exact hardware requirements. Alibaba Cloud Model Studio also offers a hosted version in the Singapore region. For everyday work with images and long context, Qwen3.8-Max through the API is more convenient.
